Summary

A collection of 160 comics from the hugely popular What’s Up, Beanie?, all adorable, humorously frank, completely wholesome, and acutely relatable

Hilariously eccentric and self-aware, Alina Tysoe, the pink-haired illustrator behind the wildly popular What's Up, Beanie?, captures relatable topics like family, the awkward pains of social anxiety, sweet moments of love and a growing relationship, amusing childhood stories, and her intense love of dogs。 Adorably drawn, these endearing snapshots of Alina's life are surprisingly familiar, as if they've been taken from your own life: finding solace with a lone puppy at a crowded party, the frustration of deciding what to eat for dinner, making the mistake of hitting the snooze button, accidentally stepping on a dog's foot and feeling like a MONSTER, and tons more!

Including dozens of all-new exclusive comics in addition to fan favorites, this collection is perfect for those who need a laugh at the small agonies of life。

This book contains a collection of some of her most well-loved comics from her Instagram that long-time followers will remember and that will make newtime readers instant fans。 Not only that, but this book contains exclusive, never-before-seen comics—so whether you’ve been following her comics for years or whether you just picked this book up for the first time, this book is for anyone and everyone to discover and enjoy! This book was such a fun reading experience of marrying the new with the old—quite literally, as this book is split into different phases in Beanie’s life, each featuring a different version of her, from “Baby Beanie” to “Teen Beanie” to “Adult Beanie。” In this way, I also loved the sentiment that this book held, which is all about having a conversation with your younger self and being able to look back at the same memory from different places in your life。 And of course, I thoroughly enjoyed the commentary between Baby Beanie and Adult Beanie as part of the bonus content。 Alina also does a great job of pulling from the full scope of her work and doesn’t just include more recent comics。 I found myself smiling fondly at some old favorites while unexpectedly coming across ones I’d never seen before (including, of course, her bonus comics made exclusively for this book!) I also caught several older comics from her very early days, some of which even looked like they were re-drawn to match her newer art style, which I thought was a nice touch! While I do think the overall structure of the book could be tightened up a little to be a bit more cohesive, I thought the selection of comics was a perfect mix。 There’s some zany humor, some relatable mid-twenties musings, some nostalgia and childlike wonder, and even some comics that will tug at your heartstrings。 Again, this book is perfect for fans of Beanie's web comics, but I also sincerely hope that this collection only introduces more people to her work, because she is absolutely an underrated gem, and her wit and storytelling ability are unmatched。 。。。more

(I received an ARC of this book through NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased opinion。)Publication date: August 3rd 2021'What's Up, Beanie?' is a collection of very cute comics based on the illustrator's experiences and her life as a child, teenager and adult。 Most of them were pretty relatable and heartwarming! I absolutely loved this book! It gave me an immense sense of warmth and truly made my serotonin levels go up higher than they have in a while。 I mean what is there not to love? Tysoe beautifully illustrates the value of life's little moments in the most adorable and endearing illustrations。 The book is colorful, lively, extremely relatable, and perfectly arranged to show the change over time in the author。 I enjoyed the fact that although most of the moments featured from Tysoe's life were happy I absolutely loved this book! Quirky and cute, don't forget to get a dog!In this adorable comic we meet Beanie as she meets her younger self。 She gets to remember her past from being an adventurous toddler all the way to her present life。 There were several moments where she was easily relatable。 I loved the innocent charm of Beanie and also how she's okay being herself even when she's doubting how others see her。 She learnt some powerful lessons and they are presented to the reader in an adorable fashion。 Even though it's a Quirky and cute, don't forget to get a dog!In this adorable comic we meet Beanie as she meets her younger self。 She gets to remember her past from being an adventurous toddler all the way to her present life。 There were several moments where she was easily relatable。 I loved the innocent charm of Beanie and also how she's okay being herself even when she's doubting how others see her。 She learnt some powerful lessons and they are presented to the reader in an adorable fashion。 Even though it's a comic you get the complete picture of Beanie's life and how she copes and evolves。 Cute and so fun!I would like to thank NetGalley, Alina Tysoe and the publisher for allowing me to read an advanced copy of "What's Up Beanie"。 I am leaving my honest, voluntary review。 。。。more

What’s Up, Beanie? is a super cute compilation of comics that reminded me of the carefree feeling of childhood。 You’re introduced to the coming-of-age story about a girl named Beanie who has pink hair。 She experiences hilariously awkward and relatable situations that we’ve all been through。 I also love how adorable and funny the drawings are。 If you need something to boost your mood, Beanie will do just that for you, especially since this book has lots of puppies in it。 Thank you NetGalley and H What’s Up, Beanie? is a super cute compilation of comics that reminded me of the carefree feeling of childhood。 You’re introduced to the coming-of-age story about a girl named Beanie who has pink hair。 She experiences hilariously awkward and relatable situations that we’ve all been through。 I also love how adorable and funny the drawings are。 If you need something to boost your mood, Beanie will do just that for you, especially since this book has lots of puppies in it。 Thank you NetGalley and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt for giving me an advance copy in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

This fun read is about young Beanie who time travels to meet adult Beanie and ask how life is。 We progress through a series of comics of Beanie as a child, Beanie as a Teen, and Beanie as an adult。 The author/artist did a great job linking the various comic panels together to tell one story。 It was lots of fun, darling, and a quick happy read。

I’ve been a follower of Alina Tysoe’s comics on Instagram for two years now。 It’s great to finally have a collection of her Beanie comics in one book! She writes about childhood, pets, and family life in a way that is so relatable。 Her comics remind me of Calvin and Hobbes, and are a refreshing source of comfort and humor during this pandemic。 I’m probably going to get a physical copy of this book for my personal library。 #WhatsUpBeanie #NetGalley
